Logic Gates: The Building Blocks of Thought

Learn how electricity becomes information.

Share:

Inside your computer, there are billions of tiny switches called transistors. These are organized into logic gates (like AND, OR, and NOT). A logic gate takes in electrical signals as '1' or '0' (on or off) and produces an output based on simple rules. For instance, an 'AND' gate only sends a signal if both its inputs are 'on'. By chaining these simple gates together, we can perform complex mathematical operations, allowing a computer to 'think' and make decisions.

Try this at home

Set up two light switches in a row for a single light bulb. This is an 'AND' gate; the light only turns on if both Switch A and Switch B are flipped to the 'on' position.
